Wai Kru 2018

“Wai Kru" is an important Thai ceremony traditionally practiced by Thai students. Thai people believe that teachers play a very important role in the learning and the growth of every child, therefore it is important for students to recognise and appreciate the person who imparts and facilitates their learning. The ceremony usually takes place in the new academic year and expresses the deep respect and gratitude students have for their teachers. Wai Kru also allows teachers to assure students that they will always be there to guide and support them throughout their learning. During the ceremony organised by the Thai departments, students perform a “Graab” which is a highly respectful gesture. They also present the teachers with four types of flowers that represent ideal characteristics of students such as intelligence, perseverance, ability to learn, discipline, respect and humility.
