Harmonious Habitats!

In Year 2, our learning has taken us on a fantastic tour of amazing habitats of the world. The journey began when we read Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Snail and the Whale’, a fantastic picture book documenting the journey of a lonely snail who jumps aboard a grey-blue humpback whale. We looked at the different places that the snail and the whale visited throughout the story and then explored what these habitats are like in real life. Through research from secondary sources such as looking at non-fiction books, atlases and the internet, we found out about the flora and fauna in different habitats around the world. After researching, we used recycled materials to create two huge habitat wheels in the shared areas in our Year group. We made our own snails, again from recycled materials, and helped them along their own journeys through our newly created habitats! For the next step of our learning, we are going to write recounts of our own snail’s journey through their eyes. Please come and ask us all about them and have a look at our fantastic habitat wheels!
