For August 2020, Bangkok Patana School has vacancies in the Science Faculty. We are looking to recruit a Physics specialist who is committed to achieving high academic standards and creating a stimulating and positive classroom ethos, which is both student-centred and success-orientated. The willingness to be an effective team player and work closely with parents is essential.

We are keen to speak with exceptional teachers experienced across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and ideally IB or A Level, who are keen to continue their professional learning and development in Bangkok’s premier British international school. We are also interested to meet with young, Teach first graduates with more limited experience but high potential.

We will interview candidates with experience/expertise in Biology or Physics to IB/A Level.

All Secondary School teachers work as subject teachers and tutors or support tutors. (Follow the hyperlinks to see the separate job descriptions)

The subject teacher has a vital role to play in the development of the students in a particular subject or subjects. The subject teacher will work in a team alongside the Key Stage Leaders, and the Head of Faculty to plan and teach in their specialist area/s in accordance with the agreed schemes of work and assessment policies for that faculty. They will work to ensure that an environment is created in which students will achieve the highest academic standards.

The tutor has a vital role to play in the development of the students in her/his care. S/he is the first point of contact and as such must assume responsibility for the immediate pastoral/academic concerns of her/his students. The tutor’s own classroom practice will always exemplify the approaches, philosophies, and expectations set out in the school’s policy documents. Tutors work in a team alongside the Head of Year and other tutors and, as such, must be effective team members helping to develop a positive team spirit within the Year group.

The Extra-Curricular Programme is considered a vital and integral component in the education of our student community. Therefore, applications are particularly welcome from teachers with experience, passion and talent in the areas of visual and performing arts, community service, debate, outward-bound activities and sports.

Science Faculty

Our aim is: “Excellence in Science learning for all.”

The Science Faculty currently has 18 teaching members of staff and four Science technicians. The positions of responsibility include the Head of Faculty, Subject Leaders and a KS3 Coordinator. The faculty is a busy and successful one, enabling students to achieve excellent results at IGCSE and IB.

In August 2015 the Science Faculty moved into the new Science Centre which is designed and equipped to the very highest specifications.  There are 16 bespoke laboratories which are generously resourced and served by 3 preparation rooms, a faculty office, and numerous collaborative spaces and breakout areas.  All laboratories have the latest short-throw interactive projectors and each teacher is provided with a high specification tablet computer.

The Science Faculty, in line with the rest of the school, uses the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 as a framework and follows the Catalyst Science series with Years 7 & 8 who are taught in tutor groups. In Year 9, an in-house course taught by subject specialists is provided to dovetail between Key Stage 3 & 4. In Years 10 and 11 students are prepared for either EDEXCEL 9-1 IGCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or EDEXCEL 9-1 IGCSE Double Award Science by subject specialists.  In the Senior Studies programme Higher Level and Standard Level International Baccalaureate courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Systems and Societies are available; students often take more than one science subject.

The faculty places great importance on the development of practical skills and learning through guided discovery and the faculty has excellent practical resources to support this. In line with this philosophy, field trips and educational visits are run for science students to deepen learning at appropriate points in the curriculum; cross-curricular activities are built into the schemes of work and teachers are encouraged to teach across the Key Stages.
